Tiger Woods stuck by his criticism of rules official John Paramor who — controversially — put the final pairing of Tiger Woods and Padraig Harrington on the clock on the 16th hole, even though the two players were the only ones with a realistic chance to win the tourney by then.
Tiger suggested that Paramor’s questionable decision decided the tournament: “”That’s why I said what I said, because that certainly affected how Paddy played the hole, and how the outcome of the tournament … he was in control of the event,” Woods said. “He was 1-up with three holes to go and he had a par-5 [to play]. And when we were put on the clock, it certainly changed everything.” (More)
Meanwhile, although the PGA Tour considered fining Tiger Woods (and, by the AP’s report, was about to do so), Ty Votaw announced that Tiger’s comment was not unreasonable and he would not be fined.
The only question remaining is this: should PGA Tour official John Paramor himself be put under internal review for his decisions at tournaments like umpires and refs are in professional baseball and basketball?
Apparently, John Paramor is the chief referee of the European Tour and has a well-known reputation for making controversial decisions with putting players on the clock. Given Paramor’s track record, does the PGA Tour need to investigate?
