Dear readers of The Golf Blog,
We in the golf community are still reeling from the news of the loss of sweet, young Erica Blasberg, one of the LPGA’s rising stars. She was found dead in her home yesterday, and details of the cause of her death remain undetermined. We at The Golf Blog have followed Erica’s career as she was one of the first bloggers for the LPGA website in 2005. She also tweeted last year, but her account seems to have been closed at some point. (Click here for an interview with Erica.)
On her website, Erica beautifully wrote: “The most rewarding part of being a professional golfer are the wonderful fans I meet. My website is designed to allow all my fans and friends to know what’s going on, learn a little more about me , ask questions and show you how to become a member of my fan club….The theme that runs throughout is best expressed with the Japanese letters you see around my name, which is the symbol for peace and harmony and it’s one of the many ancient Kanji symbols which depicts the beauty of human life, through images.”
In this video from just a few weeks ago on April 27, 2010, Erica visited the Universidad Latina De America in Morelia, site of Tres Marias Championship. With 2 other golfers, Erica “talked about a range of subjects, including their days in college, how they learned the sport of golf, and their thoughts on Lorena Ochoa.”
In this interview from 2009, Erica speaks about Puma golf apparel:
Here’s a cute commercial Erica made with Johnny Damon:
Our heartfelt prayers and condolences go out to the Blasberg family. Erica was a joy to watch. She will be missed, dearly.
