The Golf Blog says: Wow. Just saw the press conference with the U.S. Team. Hunter Mahan couldn’t finish answering questions about his match with Graeme McDowell. Mahan’s voice starting cracking, and tears welled up in his eyes. Phil Mickelson came to his aid, taking away the mike and telling the reporters to move on to the next question.
Let’s face it: Hunter had a rough day against a major champion opponent. Hunter’s only birdie for the day came on the 15th hole. He was never up in the match, although the birdie on 15 did close the margin to 1-down. Hunter went 1-2-0 in this Ryder Cup, which was better than Phil Mickelson’s and Dustin Johnson’s 1-3-0. Hunter played valiantly, but Graeme McDowell and the Euros wouldn’t be denied. It was one of the best Ryder Cups ever. And both sides should be proud.
