The Golf Blog says: The last time Tiger Woods won a major George W. Bush was president. Back then, Tiger had won at least 1 major every year for the past four years, giving everyone the impression that he would break Jack Nicklaus’s record before he turned 36 years old.
Fast forward to today. Things are different. Tiger’s 36 years old. It’s no longer looking like a certainty that Tiger will break Jack’s record of 18 majors, or even tie it. It’s over 4 years since Tiger last won a major, and, in the past 3 majors, Tiger’s made some uncharacteristic mistakes when he’s flirted with contention, particularly at the U.S. Open where Tiger was tied for the lead after 2 rounds. This week’s PGA Championship is a huge moment for Tiger Woods. If he suffers another 0-fer majors, his quest to beat Jack will become more difficult as another year will slip away. But, if Tiger wins, he will be ahead of Jack’s pace to 18 majors. And the past stumbles in the majors this year will be all but forgotten.
