An even par 73 at St. Andrews during a tough scoring day has allowed Lorena Ochoa to seize a six shot lead going into the final round of the final major tournament of the year for the women (leaderboard here). Unless Lorena blows up, she will finally capture her first major and cement her claim as the top woman’s golfer in the world.
A victory by Lorena will also complete a grand slam for women golfers under 30 at this year’s majors. That fact — coupled with Natalie Gulbis‘ breakthrough last week and the continued strong play by the likes of Paula Creamer and Brittany Lincicome (who are both in the money list Top 10) — lead me to think the future of women’s golf should be very, very bright if the LPGA folks figure out how to market all this young talent effectively.
