You’ve gotta love it when a grown man is reduced to crying on the 18th hole. Only this time it was out of joy, not heartache. Steve Stricker birdied 4 of the last 6 holes to win the first Fed Ex Cup tourney at Barclay’s, with a very emotional victory.
Not too long ago Stricker lost his tour card and hit rock bottom with his golf swing. He hadn’t won a stroke play PGA event in 11 years — dating back to 1996. (He also won the Match Play Championship in 2001.) This year, Stricker had an exceptional 3rd round at the U.S. Open, only to fade on the last day with the jitters.
Today, though, Stricker was not to be denied. He’s now No.1 in the FedEx Cup point standings. Way to go, Steve!
