UPDATE: Today, Tiger Woods said the report from AP that he was fined was erroneous and that he wasn’t fined. Yet.

Wow, just when you thought the entire “on the clock” controversy from the pivotal 16the hole of Bridgestone was over, the PGA Tour threw fuel to the fire.

The PGA Tour fined Tiger Woods for criticizing the PGA rules official John Paramor for putting them on the clock. More here

Maybe we are wrong, but this doesn’t seem like a good move for the PGA Tour. The PGA Tour needs Tiger Woods financially more than Tiger Woods needs the PGA. Tiger rarely ever says anything critical of anything, so why fine him for this putative first offense? When the PGA Tour wants Tiger Woods to play more tournaments in tough economic times (with sponsors pulling out), does the PGA Tour really think that Tiger Woods will do so when he gets slapped with a fine for saying 1 critical sentence?
