The Golf Blog: Jack Nicklaus must be loving life right now. Last year, he was almost resigned to the fact that Tiger Woods, at 14 majors, would soon break his 18 major record — given that the Masters, US Open (Pebble), and British Open (St. Andrews) would all be played at courses that Tiger has dominated in the past. Enter the sex scandal of Tiger involving up to 121 women, and the entire playing field is different.
Says Jack: “”If he does (win a major this year) he will probably go ahead and break my record. If he doesn’t win this year he has a tougher road to go. He will be 36 next year and time starts to go. He has to win five majors. Phil Mickelson won his fourth at the Masters, but prior to that three was the next closest (active) guy. So Tiger has to win almost two careers (of a ‘regular’ player) in the next five or six years to do that and that is a pretty big chore.”
