The Golf Blog says: Fred Couples ended the speculation and selected Tiger Woods as one of his two captain’s picks for the President’s Cup competition in Australia.
Couples explained, “Is he playing well right now? No. He almost won [the Masters] four months ago, so you don’t do that by playing poor golf. In my opinion, when you’re the best player in the world for 12 straight years and you’re not on a team, there’s something wrong.’’
Here are some of the key guys still in contention for the final pick:
11 10 Jim Furyk 8,372,794
12 11 Rickie Fowler 7,479,081
13 12 Bo Van Pelt 7,262,583
14 13 Brandt Snedeker 7,138,263
15 14 Zach Johnson 7,079,980
16 15 Jason Dufner 7,055,408
17 17 Ryan Moore 6,899,113
18 18 Keegan Bradley 6,864,399
19 19 Mark Wilson 6,842,904
20 20 Jonathan Byrd 6,640,688
21 21 Ryan Palmer 6,500,754
22 22 Jeff Overton 5,921,385
OUR TAKE: We agree with Couples. It’s a no-brainer to pick Tiger Woods for the President’s Cup. This competition is made for television, and the tourney is more exciting with Tiger in it–even if he is playing poorly. Just think of the matchup between Tiger Woods and Adam Scott, and new caddie versus Stevie Williams.
