Retief Goosen had the lead at the start of the day, but then double bogeyed the first hole en route to a 75. Ernie Els had the lead with 3 holes to play, but then missed a short 4 footer for birdie on 16. Els was steaming on the next hole as he waited on the tee and then proceeded to bogey the hole. That left the 18th, where Els again missed a short putt, this time for par. Els still shot a 67, but finished 1 stroke out of the playoff.
Luke Donald then won in a playoff and regained the World No. 1 ranking.
