The Golf Blog says: There he is again, in contention on the weekend of a major. The last time Tiger Woods was in contention on the weekend–at this year’s U.S. Open–he had a horrible final two rounds. Today, Tiger is four shots back of leader Brandt Snedeker, with Adam Scott one back of the leader. Tiger shot rounds of 67 and 67, and his shot making looks solid. The putter hasn’t been on fire, but it hasn’t in a long time.
So will Tiger be able to close the gap on Snedeker and Scott today? Royal Lytham & St. Annes is drying out, which may make play more difficult (finally!). That may give Tiger the opening he needs. Neither Snedeker nor Scott has won a major. But that’s not to say that they are not capable. Also, others chasing the leaders may make a charge. Tiger, though, has a golden opportunity today. Let’s see whether he can resurrect the old magic.
