The Golf Blog says: Phil Mickelson was hitting the ball fairly well (after a shaky start with a bogey at the first), but couldn’t seem to convert any putts. Merion doesn’t offer many easy putts, but Phil did miss one short one for birdie. Back to back bogeys on 12 and 13 took Phil back to even par. Finally, on the 18th hole, Phil sunk a 25-footer for birdie to pull back to -1, tying Billy Horschel who shot an impressive 67 in the second round at Merion, hitting all 18 greens in regulation.
Said Phil, “I played the hard holes extremely well and on the easier holes today, I didn’t capitalize on any opportunities.”
Meanwhile, Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy are +3, still within striking distance and always dangerous.
