The Golf Blog says: Practically no one now is defending Rory McIlroy’s switch to Nike clubs, ball, and putter as being a non-issue. Because they can’t. The stats don’t lie.

After switching to Nike clubs, Rory’s play has been absolutely abysmal for the past 7 months. Things are so bad Rory admitted that he was “lost.” For Rory’s dismal stats since using Nike clubs, click here and here. They aren’t pretty!

This week, after bristling from criticism from Nick Faldo about Rory’s switching of his entire bag, Rory missed the cut, shooting a 79 on the second day at Muirfield. Nick Faldo and Johnny Miller have won 8 majors between them (6 and 2, respectively). Both questioned Rory’s switch to Nike clubs at the start of the season, noting how difficult it is to switch the entire bag and ball. They should know–they switched clubs during their careers and realized it wasn’t that easy. Miller even predicted that it could take Rory an entire year to get adjusted to his new clubs. Johnny looks like a savant now after three of the majors are done for Rory.

For the love of Tom Morris, no one thinks the switch to Nike clubs has gone smoothly for Rory. It would take courage for him to admit it, and even more courage for him to return Nike’s $200 million and go back to his trusty old Titleist clubs–the same clubs with which he won 2 majors and became the World No. 1 player. Rory should just do it. His quest to win majors may depend on it.
