The Golf Blog says: Michelle Wie, 24 years old, won her first career major, the U.S. Women’s Open. It took a long time for the once teen phenom to claim her first major, but Wie is still a year younger than Rory McIlroy. Today’s victory may open the floodgates.
Wie led most of the tournament, similar to how Martin Kaymer went wire-to-wire last week at Pinehurst. Wie had a 3 shot lead over Stacy Lewis with 3 holes left. But Wie had a double bogey on 16 after taking an unplayable lie in the natural waste area. That dropped Wie’s lead down to a stroke. But on the 17th hole, Wie bounced back with a 25 foot birdie putt, which prompted a double fist pump from Michelle. Way to go, Michelle!
But first, let me take a #selfie. Best photos from Michelle Wie's #USWomensOpen win: http://t.co/fkVuxGiakY pic.twitter.com/YDPdRH4keb
