The Golf Blog says: Patrick Reed matched every shot and every birdie putt that Rory McIlroy could throw at him, in the first singles match on Sunday at the Ryder Cup in Minnesota. Reed won 1-up, after sinking a clutch, downhill birdie putt. Reed finished 3-1-1 for the Ryder Cup and was the clear MVP for the US team.
Meanwhile, the best match of the day came 5 groups later. It was hard to beat Reed-Rory, but that’s what Phil Mickelson and Sergio Garcia did. Phil Mickelson had 10 birdies, and Sergio Garcia had 9 birdies. The match ended fittingly with a half for both sides. Wow.
A birdie…and a LEAP from Phil Mickelson!
He halves the match with Sergio Garcia!
